Tim Berners Lee Reflective Report
Tim Berners Lee is a British scientist and the creator of the World Wide Web. He also implemented the first successful communication between a Hypertext transfer protocol(HTTP) client and server via internet. Currently he is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium(W3C). Despite that the creation took place between 1989 and 1990, he wasn’t honored as the inventor of the World Wide Web until the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
I learned that creativity is one of the most important qualities that any person can have to come up with such a magnificent and world changing creation. I really liked the analogy that he mentions about the musician, the painter, and the programmer; in addition to the mechanical and logical way of thinking that programmers have, they all have to have that spark of creativity to become successful. I felt a lot of affinity when he mentioned the appearance of mathematics in every aspect of life because I completely agree.
The creation of the internet is probably one of the most important, if not the most important, invention of the last 3 decades. The internet allows us to share and access information in a free manner. In my opinion, this free access to information revolutionized the world; making communication easier and improving dramatically the research field as well as education, industries, and globalization. I found appealing Mr. Berners’ comment about the transition or integration that the internet is having to application; it gives a more secure environment and creating a little more trust in users, now that they have to download a software or application to use personal information in a more secure way. He mentioned that the World Wide Web was having a transition to the application world and that in some cases they are meshed or working together.
Imagine doing a project in school having to go book by book, page by page, to find the information you need without using the web; it’s a time consuming task and there are more limited resources in the library. Having the World Wide Web at your finger tips is like having every library put together, only a click of a button away. Communication is faster and easier than ever before. Finding a future engineering job through the web gives me almost unlimited possibilities; I can apply for any job worldwide from the comfort of my living room. I can communicate with these future employers without necessarily having to travel there. The World Wide Web is essential in my education and my future career; I will be implementing the internet in my daily tasks in my career by modifying and creating new programs to run through it.
